Biology
Cell structures found on Okonoboa-VI. The threads appear to be basic nerves, and use water's surface tension for structure while suspended in the oily pools of their homeworld.
Biology is the study of life, encompassing a broad range of topics including human biotechnology and alien organic chemistry. The number of subdivisions within the field is ever-growing as more unique alien biospheres are discovered and technological breakthroughs are made to solve new problems.
Space is a harsh environment, as are the worlds within it; very few places beyond Home are naturally suited for the survival of unaugmented humans. People require food, oxygen, and liquid water, and they need to avoid hazards such as radiation and extreme temperatures. However scientists are constantly developing new methods to adapt human biology to suit new environments in order to further humanities’ colonization of space. And while these environments may be hostile to people, they are sometimes home to native organisms that evolved there; exobiology is an ever-expanding field that seeks to catalog and study the fascinating and diverse lifeforms along with the exotic environments they have adapted to.
