Technology
Technology is the application of science and innovation for practical use. Humanity has developed countless technologies in its efforts to tame the harshness of space, using resources and energies found in far-off systems.
Though some discoveries are notable enough to have a humanity-wide impact, the majority concern only local space. All space-faring societies have basic needs that must be met; spacecraft need strong but lightweight construction, electronics need efficient conductors, people need food to consume. The inhabitants of any given system must meet these needs with whatever resources are locally available in abundance; much of humanities technological innovation comes from finding creative applications to adapt whatever resources are locally abundant to meet the requirements of their developing society.
