K'vel

The K’vel is an advanced spacecraft currently stranded in the Obanozagria system 211 lightyears from Home. The ship was designed to carry a collapsible particle collider which can be deployed to manufacture warp drive fuel for the ship, allowing it to operate continuously into the outer volumes. However as of 349 FA the ship is stranded at its current location after suffering some failure in the deployment of the particle collider, leaving it unable to manufacture more warp fuel. Colliders are normally massive “static” infrastructure, far too large to contain within the current theoretical maximum warp field volume. As the only source of fuel for warp drives, warp spacecraft are dependent on star systems that have operational particle colliders.

The K’vel originates from the Ubyervian Technocracy, a society spread across several systems in the outer Alta-Yirgo-Deltus octant. Ubyervian culture is based on technological innovation and incorporating it into everyday life. The crew of the K’vel are individuals that have been integrated into small machine bodies with low nourishment requirements; only the biological brain of the individual person remains. To conserve resources the crew exist in a low metabolic state, only “awakened” to normal levels of cognitive reaction when needed. The ship itself is otherwise entirely automated.

Fate

In 349 the ship exited warp around the third planet in the Obanozagria system, the next intended waypoint on its journey. It began deployment of its particle collider to create more warp fuel for the next stretch of its journey. However a technical error occurred during deployment, the exact details of which have not been released, and the K’vel has since been unable to create warp fuel in order to leave the system. Previously on its journey the K’vel had never remained in the same system for more than nine months, but has now been trapped in the Obanozagria system for the last three years.

The ship still has some warp fuel, not enough for it to reach to a better location, and has been using its warp drive as a transmitter to maintain contact with Ubyervia back home via encoded messages, who have publicly released the known details of the events.
